Mykola Katerynchuk: the Appealing against counting of the voting results corresponds to the European practice
“By appealing against counting of the voting results at separate election sites after the second round of the Presidential Election elections practice in Ukraine is being brought closer to democratic standards of the European level”, - the leader of the European party of Ukraine, the People's Deputy of Ukraine Mykola Katerynchuk commented on the intention of the Yulia Tymoshenko Block to strive recalculation of voices at separate sites through legal procedure.
«The European practice of summing up of any voting tends to the ascertainment of the objective results. For example, in 2000 at the elections in the USA after voices had been counted up, it appeared that in the states of Florida, New Mexico and some others, the balance of voices for each candidate was very small. So in the State of Florida the vote recount decided the result of the elections. The first vote recount in this state brought priority to Bush in the little more than 1 thousand voices and at almost 6 million bulletins. And in five weeks of litigations and a corresponding vote recount George Bush received a victory over democrat Albert Gore”, - Mykola Katerynchuk stated.
“In case when rupture between participants of races makes less than 4 percent that actually is in limits of a statistical error of sociological researches, it is quite natural that the candidate for President of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko who was supported by the European Party of Ukraine, would apply in court with the vote recount demand at those sites where there were facts of infringements of the electoral legislation. It is entirely normal democratic practice which will not interfere at all with the work of the Central Electoral Committee, and will not be the certificate of discontent with the will of citizens of the country», - Mykola Katerynchuk underlined.
“The Regionals” censures and comments about it I would regard as a fear concerning revealing of the facts of infringements during the ascertainment of the results of voting by the members of the commissions – representatives of Victor Yanukovych. If their candidate is assured of his victory he should not worry at all. And the vote recount will respond on suspicions of the society, concerning the facts of falsifications», - the Party leader underlined.
“A good example of such situation is the vote recount at the presidential election in Romania last year. Rupture between working president and opposition candidate Mircea Geoana made less than one percent. It is necessary to notice that there the data of exit-pools spoke of the victory of Geoana on 3 %. Though the vote recount did not change the results of the elections it dispelled doubts concerning falsifications at those voters who voted for the oppositional candidate”, - the People's Deputy noted. – “There are also other similar examples, in Moldova, Estonia, once again certifying that the BYUT intention to strive vote recount on separate sites through legal procedure is absolutely normal world and European practice of a democratic objective results ascertainment of any elections”.
“I consider that Tymoshenko has a just cause to apply to the court with the demand of vote recount at separate sites and such position of her completely responds to the European practice of elections and ascertainment of voting results, - Mykola Katerynchuk resumed.
